The best part about having friends visit is the excuse to be a complete tourist for a day or two! Yesterday I woke up early, had a quick bowl of overnight oats and headed to midtown with my two close friends Erik and Curmi. We started the day with a trip to the top of the rock.

It was amazing. The day was crystal clear and I could see the entire park north of us and all the way to the financial district as well as NJ and (my beloved) Brooklyn south. This is a perfect example of something I never would have done if I wasn’t playing tourist for the day, but so much fun!
We then took nice brisk walk up 5th ave to check out all the beautiful windows. It was freezing so I didn’t get any pictures but the windows were every bit as impressive as one might imagine. I also noticed the pervasive “Alice in Wonderland” theme extended into them, as it has seemed to throughout much of this city. Maybe it’s just me but it really feels like people are excited for the latest Burton/Depp/Carter project. I know I am.
After we peeked into the insanely crowded FAO Schwartz we decided to forgo the insanity of midtown for the relative quiet of the east village for a delicious Thai lunch. I had the edamame and salad with a bowl of soup for lunch, delish.

We then took in the Museum of Sex, which was really no where near as interesting as I thought it would be. Skip this one and head to the west village for virtually the same education and save the 14 bucks. Funny enough we did head to the west village next and Erik sampled a slice of authentic NY pizza from Joe’s. Curmi and I both had a bite and agreed it was divine. A few drinks in one of my favorite little dives after that and we were ready to head back to Brooklyn for dinner.
It was so nice to run around the city all day and explore. I have to say though, I think I’m just about ready to hop on the Transit North this weekend and spend a day alone hiking Cold Spring. I feel like a need an afternoon with a little nature companionship after all the holiday craziness. Maybe Saturday?
Off to do some yoga before I meet Wendy for a locally grown dinner at Franny’s tonight. I’m really excited to try their Neapolitan pizza. After that I plan on welcoming in the new year in a somewhat chill fashion. Perhaps a quiet toast with my close friends.
Have a safe and Happy New Year!
