Just a couple of things today, since it’s going to be nearly 60 degrees out and I’d be doing myself shame by not spending the day outside on my bike with the wind in my face.
First of all, Galaxy Granola is freaking amazing. I don’t know if it’s available everywhere but it is by far the most delicious and nutritious granola I’ve run into yet that wasn’t made by a friend. If you have the opportunity to check it out, do so and let me know about your experience in awesomeness. (note: works amazingly well in Fage)
Secondly, New York is somewhat beastly when engulfed in 2 consecutive months of temperatures consistently under 20 degrees. Don’t get me wrong, the bitter cold has done nothing to quench my love of this city, it’s still the best in the world, but even the finest indoor experiences can feel cramped and cabin fevered after 8 long weeks. Apparently this was the one of the coldest first two months of the year in something like five years and the only January not to creep above 40 degrees in nearly ten. So it’s not just my delicate southern tempered perception coloring my experience, it has been legitimately freaking freezing here.
However, the daylight is finally stretching out a tiny bit longer, long enough to notice – and it is completely impossible for me to ignore the early signs of spring.
It’s also impossible for me not to address the incredible contrast in my life from a single year ago, and I relish every day of this freedom, independence and opportunity.
I’ve been told that spring is the most lovely of all seasons in this city, and although I find it difficult to imagine it being more fantastic than the fall, after a long cold dark winter acquainting myself with my apartment and with the gym, the sheer freedom the warm weather will make it so very, very sweet.
Tribeca, a block from my work, earlier this week:
