experiential learning

I love that this city is slowly changing before my eyes, both in actual substance and in my perception. With each trip into Manhattan the island seems to shrink, even if only by the tiniest amount. Each venture on a train becomes more habitual and closer still to that point of comfort. And every day I am thankful to be here, even if I did choose one of the more, ahem, interesting times in this country’s financial history.

I had a conversation last night about outlook, perception and projection, all of which I find so essential in success with an endeavor like mine.

We are as we project. We are as happy and as optimistic and as capable as we allow ourselves to be. Much of what my life now is can be attributed to my ability to trudge on through and, as lovely Dory so quaintly put it, keep on swimming. To look upon obstacles as adventures, to understand that some of life truly is simple unbridled endurance.

Being sick for two weeks really pushed all of this into perspective for me, as maintaining that sense of positivity became increasingly more difficult with each hack of a lung and each missed day of riding. But with the help of my friends, and a bit of self reliance I found strength even in sickness.  I believe that it is with that particular blend of strength that one truly finds some center. And with center comes balance and calm and all those elusive things we spend so much time, money, and effort searching for.

I have always learned by doing and the act of living here has quite possibly been the greatest learning experience of my life so far.

And folks, we’re only 3 months in.
