Kinematics

I am reminded of a scene from the old 80′s favorite Parenthood when I think of current events in my life. No, not because of anything involving the children element, though I am visiting my brand new shiny godson in Fredricksburg next weekend, but that’s kind of besides the point.

It’s more that scene from the end of the movie when the senile old grandma compares life – and ones method of living it to making an ride selection at the amusement park.

There’s the good old safe carousel which never really takes you anywhere but can be somewhat distracting for those that choose not to take risks, and in contrast, there is the roller coaster.

I’ve always been a coaster girl myself, through all of life’s experiences really. But one sometimes forgets, in the midst of the ride, that with all the insane and wonderful highs there is the ever present reality of the lows. After all, we can’t much appreciate one without the other now can we? That whole yin yang-ness rears it’s little eastern philosophical head. I just sometimes wish I had some way of saving some of the peaks to dip into when rolling ever so slowly though a valley.

I am chugging along here though, and I can see light and feel the ever present pulse of this city but there’s a limit to lemonade intake if that makes any sense at all. After a while it starts to mess with the roof of your mouth and all you really want is some nice, refreshing, I don’t know – vodka? Maybe so.

In any case – it’s Friday and it’s a brand new year and I really do have an awful lot to be thankful for. So I’ll focus on all the beautiful things, like the fall weather, and my best friend Kelly being in town for the weekend and it being Friday and I bet I’ll be right as rain before you know it.

If you’ve got any encouraging stories, uplifting links and hugs of any nature they would be happily accepted at this time.

Oh yes, and dark chocolate, I will defiantly not be passing on any dark chocolate at all for the foreseeable future. And what goes with dark chocolate? Why delicious red wine and a Shakespearean play of course.

You know what? Perhaps thinks are not nearly as bleak as they seem.

Well, don’t they say that when you hit bottom, there’s no where to go but up?

You sure scaled that wall pretty damn quick, my dear!
