This past Sunday I decided to hop on the metro north railroad and meet my cousin Jessica for lunch in New Haven Connecticut. I knew I was going to love the ride and it didn’t let me down. In fact, I dare say it was even cooler than I had expected. Getting out of New York is great for perspective and doing it just for a day trip is absolutely perfect. I was a little worried that Jess and I wouldn’t have much to do after lunch since I, in all my google-ing glory had really failed to examine the town of New Haven. I kid you not – I didn’t even know that it was home to Yale. Embarrassing I’ll admit but honestly – when did I need to know such stuff? As far as I was concerned it was another parking lot with a coliseum and I believe I’ve seen a show there.
Kind of like my experience in many of the continental 48 United States. If you know me, you’ll know why.
Anyway, of course there were a million little shops and coffee houses and bars as it’s a freaking college town! And of course we had plenty to entertain us while we walked off our humongous insano sized lunches. We decided to stop at a quaint little bar where I could recharge my iPhone for the journey home and found that we had happened by the cutest and quaintest little gar bar I’d been in in quite a while. We drank our hot cider and coffee respectively with no scoffing whatsoever from the staff and they didn’t mind at all that we just kind of chilled out and used their power. I’ll definitely be stopping back in the future, the plan is to have a repeat some time in December. I can’t wait to see the chilly barren countryside from the train.
I love that the public transportation opportunities extend all the way up and outside of the state. I love that I can wake up on a crisp Sunday morning, pay 14 dollars and be in Connecticut by 11. I love that I get to blog, and twitter and facebook all the while.
